Ph.D. in Automation and Robotics from the University of Sevilla, he has worked at the University of Lund (guest researcher), TU Delft (postdoc) and the University of Cádiz (assistant professor).

In addition to his Ph.D., where he was awarded the extraordinary prize of the University of Seville, he has a master's degree in smart homes and smart buildings from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a master's degree in telecommunications economics from the National University of Distance Education.

His main research interests are the control of distributed systems and the integration of service robots in the intelligent home.

He is the author and co-author of more than sixty conferences and newspapers on these topics and is one of the editors of the books "Robotic service in the digital home: applications and future perspectives" and "Distributed model of simplified predictive control" published by Springer.

Finally, he is one of the founders of the technological firms Idener and Alacarta Integrated Technologies.

He got his degree of Doctor in Computer Engineering at the University of Alicante in 2005 with a thesis on the modeling of data warehouses with UML. He has made postdoctoral stays in the United States and Ecuador.

His main research topics include the development of web applications, usability and web accessibility, e-learning, open and massive online courses (Massive Open Online Courses, MOOC) and open educational resources (OER).

He has published several research papers in several conferences (ER, UML and DOLAP) and high impact journals (DKE, JCS, JDBM, JIS, JUCS and UAIS), both national and international. Also, he has published several books related to the programming and development of web pages and with the programming of data structures and the C ++ language.

He has taught "Compilers", "Programming and data structures", "Programming on the Internet", "Programming Hypermedia I" and "XML" at the University of Alicante. He has also taught numerous courses on web programming, web application development, usability, and accessibility, both in Spain and in other countries such as Algeria, Cuba, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Moldova, Peru, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

He got a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA), Mérida, Venezuela, in 1984. He got an MSc degree in Control Engineering (ULA), 1992. He moved to the University of South Florida, Tampa (USF), Florida in the United States in 1992.

In 1994 he obtained an ME in Chemical Engineering and in 1996 the Doctorate in Engineering Sciences both in USF. He developed postdoctoral activities at USF in 2001. He has worked in teaching and research at ULA, and PDVSA (Venezuela), USF (USA) and is currently a full-time professor at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN).

He was Director of the School of Electrical Engineering, Coordinator of the Master Program in Automation and Instrumentation, Dean of the Engineering Faculty of the ULA. He is associate editor of ISA Transactions, and currently Editor of the Polytechnic Magazine.

His lines of research include sliding mode control, process control systems with high delay, chemical process control. He is the author of more than 150 publications in journals and conference proceedings.

His thematic interest is in the field of Stochastic Predictive Control. Author of more than a dozen articles, among international magazines and congresses.

Dean of Research at the Polytechnic School of the Littoral (ESPOL), Professor at the Department of Engineering in Electricity and Computing. He obtained the degree of Computer Engineer in 1990 in ESPOL, the MSc in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Digital Communications in Purdue University in 1995 and his Ph.D. in Software Engineering from the University of Quebec in Montreal in 2012.

He also received in 2013 the Canadian Governor General's Gold Medal for extraordinary academic achievements during his doctoral studies at the University of Quebec.

He has been President of the IEEE Section Ecuador. His areas of interest are the Engineering of Software Requirements, the Modeling of Business Processes, and the Measurement of the Functional Size of Software.
